Attitude #1 Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude

Have you ever heard the expression or saying, “Your Attitude Determines Your Altitude”? The dictionary defines attitude as: A way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically an idea that is reflected in a person’s behavior.

This means, how you look at things or at people will be a reflection of the attitude you have in your mind.  People with a good attitude or positive out look will look at problems as opportunities and not so much as obstacles.  On the other hand, people with a bad or negative attitude will look at problems as impossible and do very little to fix or change them.

Many students that I teach are surprised to learn that you can control your own attitude in a big way.  We can do this simply by changing some of the things that you say.  In 1839 English author Edward Bulwer-Lytton coined the term “The pen is mightier than the sword.” and he was right, words have amazing power! Using negatives words often like, I Can’t, I Hate, I Won’t, I Quit, will unknowingly cause you to develop a bad or negative attitude. They set you up to fail or to lose.  The more you use these words, the less productive and happy you will become.

What we should be looking to do is use word like I Can, I Love, I Will or, I will persevere!  As I mentioned earlier the definition of Attitude is: A way of thinking or feeling about someone or something, typically an idea that is reflected in a person’s behavior.  If we look at the things in life with a good and positive way then we will begin to produce results in that way.  Words really do have a major impact on us and we should be looking to use the right words, the words that take us to new heights.

We need to understand that the first step in developing a happy, successful, winning, and positive attitude takes place within yourself.  The rest of this week I want to challenge you to notice how often we use a negative behavior or negative words. I’d like you to try and change those words and actions out for better and more positive ones.
